Czech Theatre Award goes to One of the 2009 Festival Performances

Obludarium

Czech Theatre Award goes to One of the 2009 Festival Performances: ObludariumThe most important award in Czech theatre, the Alfred Radok Award, which corresponds to the Danish Reumert award, was given to Theatre Forman Brothers for their production, Obludarium on Saturday March 7, 2009 in Prague.

Other productions nominated in the same category were Leaving, by former Czech president, dramaturge and author Vaclav Havel, and the Czech National Theatre's opera Zitra se Bude.

One of the reasons for giving the prize to Forman Brothers was a desire to applaud a unique and experimental form of theatre. Obludarium, a production for both young and old, is performed in its own beautiful theatre building. It is total theatre, done as a new circus performance with live music, masks and puppets. There are dancers, actors, puppeteers and musicians, 17 in all.

Our Danish and international audiences can already look forward to seeing this performance, which will have its Danish premiere at the puppetry festival in November in Silkeborg.

Theatre Forman Brothers lovely theatre building will be set up in the area between Midtjyllands Avis, Performers House, Silkeborg Musik and Teaterhus and Hotel Radison SAS.

The project is sponsored by The Danish Arts Counsil and Region Midtjylland. There will be a major workshop project with the region's theatres in combination with the performance of Obludarium.

Vaclav Havel was present at the Czech award ceremony and received the Alfred Radok award for best dramaturgy.
